PRESS: Nokia wants permits from US, Finland for Russia supplies

MOSCOW, Nov 8 (PRIME) -- Finnish telecom equipment maker Nokia has requested export licenses from the U.S. Bureau of Industry and Security and Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs for shipments to Russia, RBC Daily reported on Tuesday quoting several sources.

After the start of Russia’s special military operation, the U.S., the E.U., and other countries imposed sanctions on high-tech exports to Russia that now requires receipt of a special license.

A source said that Nokia needs the U.S. permit because the Finnish company acquired French-U.S. equipment maker Alcatel-Lucent in 2016 and some patents are issued for local firms.

Permission of the Finnish ministry is needed since the equipment is supposed to be delivered from this country.

“The matter is not about delivery of equipment to expand the networks, but about spare parts needed to maintain regular functioning of the existing networks for three years…The talks with all the customers are at a final stage,” a source said, adding that Nokia plans to make a responsible exit from Russia.
